Where are Austrian vignettes valid?
In Austria, tolls are charged on all motorways and expressways. The toll is paid in the form of a vignette. This fee in turn ensures the expansion and operation of the network of high-level roads, tunnels and bridges in Austria.
Austria offers motorists 1,745 km of motorways and 486 km of expressways, which require a toll to be paid. Most motorways and expressways are paid for by purchasing vignettes. However, there are additionally tolled sections, such as bridges or tunnels, which must be paid separately - this can be done immediately before entering the section.
If you are on a toll road without a vignette, you must buy one immediately. If the police do not check the vehicle and we buy a vignette in the meantime, there is a possibility that a ticket will not be issued, even if our vehicle was recorded by a vignette checking camera.
Why is it worth it?
